Attendance at Community Mathematics Nights Tops 2,700 (through March 2007)

GBMP recognizes that parents and community members are vital for successful implementation of quality mathematics programs.  Among our primary efforts to reach the public are  Community Mathematics Nights (CMNs) which are offered throughout the year. During these 2-hour sessions, the public is engaged in doing mathematics while considering important issues in mathematics education. The sessions are attended by parents, teachers, and administrators and are designed to build a common base of experience for all educational stakeholders in the community. GBMP has hosted 28 Community Mathematics Nights since January 2005 in various locations throughout Jefferson and Shelby counties, most recently (March 2007) in Trussville, Fairfield, and Gardendale.   Turnout for these 3 sessions was 396,  bringing the total CMN attendance to date to 2,707. On the post-session surveys, nearly 90% of all respondents have rated these evenings as “informative or extremely informative.”
